Problem: A salesman’s commission is 5% on all sales upto Tk. 10,000 and 4% on all sales exceeding this. He remits Tk. 31,100 to his parent company after deducting has commission. Find the total sales.

Explanation:

Let, total sales be tk. x

According to question.

x – [ 5% of 10000 + 4% of (x – 10000)] = 31100

x-[$\frac{5}{100}\times 10000+\frac{4}{100}$(x – 10000)] = 31,100

x = 32,500
