Problem: Age of three persons is now the proportion 2x, 3x, 4x and in 5 years from now, the proportion will be 5 : 7 : 8. What is the present age of the youngest person?

Correct Answer: Let, the age of three persons is 27, 3x, 4x years respectively (where x be the common term)
After 5 years, their age will be 2x + 5, 3x + 5, 4x + 5 years respectively
According to the question,
(2x + 5) : (3x + 5) : (4x + 5) = 5 : 7 : 8 ………………(i)
Now, from (i) we can write
$\frac{2x+5}{3x+5}$ = $\frac{5}{7}$
=>  15x+25=14x+35
x = 10
The age of the younger person = 2 x 10 == 20 years
