Problem: In a group, the ratio of male to female was 1 to 4. After 140 additional males were added, the ratio of male to female became 2 to 3. How large was the entire group after the additional males were added?

Correct Answer: 560

Explanation:

Let, the number of male be 2:

Then the number of female be 4

:Total number of male and female = x + 4x = 5x

According to the question,x+140:4x=2:3

=> $\frac{x+140}{4x}=\frac{2}{3}$

=> 3x + 420 = 8x

=> 5x = 420

=> x = 84

Total number of member be = 5x + 140= 5 X 84 + 140= 420 + 140 = 560
