Problem: The area of a rectangular plot is 323 square meters. Its perimeter is 72 meters. Find the length and breadth of the plot.

Correct Answer: W = 19 and L = 17

Explanation:

Let, length = L and Breadth = W

According to question,

2(L + W) = 72

L + W = 36

L = 36 — W………..(i)

And LW = 323

(36 — W)W = 323 [Putting the value of ‘L’]W²—36W+323 =0

W²-2x Wx 18+(18)²— 1 =0 (w — 18)²— 1 = 0

(W— 13)² = 1

(W-18)² = ($\pm$1)²

W- 18 = 1

W= 1 + 18

W = 19

Putting the value of W in equation (1) we getL = 36 – W

L = 36 – 19

L = 17.
