Problem: If I walk at the rate of 4 kmph I miss the train by 10 minutes. If I walk at the rate of 5 kmph I reach 5 minutes before the arrival of the train. How far is the station from my house assuming that I start walking from my house?

Explanation:

Let, the distance of the station from my house = x km.Here, total time = 5 + 10 = 15 minutes =$\frac{15}{60}= \frac{1}{4}$ hour

According to the question,$\frac{x}{4}-\frac{x}{5} = \frac{1}{4}$

=> $\frac{5x-4x}{20} = \frac{1}{4}$

=> x = $\frac{20}{4}$

x = 5
