Problem: A garden is 60 meter long and 20 meter wide. Inside the garden there is a 5 meter wide path around it. What is the area of the path in square meter?

Correct Answer: The area of the path is 700 square meter.

Explanation:

The area of the garden is = 60 x 20 = 1,200 Sq. meter

Length without road = 60 – 5 x 2 = 50 meter and

Breadth without road = 20 – (2 x 5) = 10 meter

Without road, the area of the garden is = 50 x 10 = 500 Sq. meter

The area of the road is = 1,200 – 500 = 700 Sq. meter
