Problem: in a city, the ratio of private homes to apartment houses is 5 3 if all the apartmenthouses are brick structures and$\frac{1}{10}$  th of the private homes are wooden structures, What is the portion of the total houses that is made of brick?

Correct Answer: ans: The portion of the total house that is made of brick is $\frac{15}{16}$

Explanation:

Private home : Apartment = 5 : 3

Suppose the private home = 5x

The apartment house = 3x

Total houses = 5x + 3x = 8x

S0, wooden house = 5x$\times \frac{1}{10}=\frac{X}{2}$

Brick structure and private house = 5x-$\frac{X}{2}$=$\frac{9X}{2}$

So, the total brick structured = 3x+$\frac{9X}{2}$=$\frac{15X}{2}$

Bnck structure : Total=$\frac{15X}{2}$:8X=15X:16X

$\frac{Brick structure}{Total}$=$\frac{15X}{16X}$=$\frac{15}{16}$
